Underage Drinking
Mack C. Mitchell Jr., Philippe De Witte
- Presses universitaires de Louvain

- 9782875580900
The complexity and importance of underage drinking prompted ERAB and ABMRF to initiate a state of the art review. It explores the extent of underage drinking across Europe and North America, as well as our current understanding of factors that increase the risk of this behaviour and potentially effective evidence-based approaches to prevent underage drinking. Unfortunately, the problem is complex and a single solution or policy to prevent underage drinking does not exist. Nevertheless, a number of strategies are effective in some circumstances and warrant further study in different populations. Preventing risky drinking requires understanding of the important influence of family and peers. It is also important to recognize that some genetic traits like impulsivity, anxiety, sensation seeking and emotional dysregulation can also influence harmful drinking. These aspects (family and peers and genetic influence) are affected by cultural and environmental influences which, in turn, can influence each other. The overall goal of this project was to develop a set of recommendations that could be used by public health departments and key stakeholders in the individual countries that make up Europe and the United States and Canada. It is clear that a single solution to this problem cannot be identified, given the different cultural backgrounds. In addition to providing a menu of effective strategies, recommendations on the best method for applying them in different cultural settings are included. Although individual interventions may have low efficacy when used in isolation, combining several interventions may improve overall effectiveness.

alieNATION presents research conducted by a national election team and leading scholars in political communication that explores a range of important topics and variables affecting voter attitudes and behavior in the 2012 U.S. presidential election. In exploring the messages, issues, and voters of the 2012 election, these studies employ multiple methods including experimental design, content analysis, rhetorical criticism, and survey research. Whereas other election research tends to investigate either the content or effects of campaign communication, the more comprehensive and systematic nature of this collection enables alieNATION to cohere thematically around considerations of voter alienation, political engagement, political efficacy, and ultimately, citizens' voting decisions.

Resistance to Targeted Therapies in Lymphomas
Ana C. Xavier, Mitchell S. Cairo
- Springer
- 13 Septembre 2019
- 9783030244248
Over the past few decades, lymphoma patient outcomes have improved as a result of multidrug chemotherapy and radiation therapy, intensification of treatment, improvement in supportive care, and better imaging and staging systems. Even more recently, there has been tremendous progress in the understanding of cancer cell biology and its microenvironment which has resulted in the development of biologic agents, also called "target" therapies. These therapies are more specific in targeting cancer cells either directly or via enhancement of the immune system. Many clinical studies have focused on biological agents in combination with traditional chemotherapy with the goal of improved outcomes, or reduced acute long term complications that are associated with lymphoma therapy. This volume will review different classes of "target" drugs that have been developed, approved, or are under investigation in the field of lymphoma therapy. The discussion will not only be on the understanding of the mechanisms of action or clinical response of those agents, but will also help the reader to understand the nature of lymphoma biology in patients who relapse or are refractor after exposure to those drugs. Contributors will discuss what is currently known about mechanisms of tumor-related or host-related resistance, and how to overcome this resistance. This understanding is crucial given the dismal outcomes of patients with relapsed or refractory lymphomas. The book provides a unique opportunity to review and reflect on the recent successes and pitfalls of the modern lymphoma therapy era.

"Good books make important points because their authors have something worthwhile to say. This book is more than a good book because its authors not only make important points but they do so in ways that exemplify the transdisciplinarity the authors write about. In eight interesting and insightful chapters the book connects pedagogy, marketing, development, immanence, race, resilience, technology, and the commons in ways that show the necessity and importance of transdisciplinary thinking. This is a book for those who seek deeper and more creative connections to a sustainable way of life, a way of life that opens up imaginative acts of hope." - John Novak, Professor in the Department of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies in Education at Brock University; his research interests include: Philosophy of education, Invitational theory and practice, Educational leadership, and Social-cultural contexts of education

- Palgrave Macmillan
- 20 Mars 2024
- 9783031399046
This volume considers how Black activism in Latin America has taken place in varying arenas such as in the academy, digital platforms, and traditional forms of activism. Contributors also examine the impact of activism on policy advocacy and legislation, as well as groups who the Black Lives Matter movement focus on such as women and immigrants. The first part of the book focuses on making Black Lives Matter in academic studies, governmental data, and politics. The next section focuses on the impact of Black activism on policy and legislation in Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. Black activists have been fighting for Black lives throughout Latin America and their struggles have not been in vain, although less policy change has occurred in Peru. The last section finds that social media has allowed for more independent forms of Black activism in Brazil and Cuba.
